Box office: Brahmastra sells 1 lakh tickets on opening day, 2 lakh on weekend: Competes with Sanju
Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt's Brahmastra has already made the biggest progress in the pandemic period and the release of the film is still 3 days away.
The Ayan Mukerji directorial sold just under 1 million tickets
on its first day across three national chains, PVR, Inox and Cinepolis.
As per the 9 PM figures, the film has sold 92,000 tickets marginally behind RRR (1.05 million tickets) and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 (1.03 million tickets) and would be nearing the 1 million mark at the time of going to press.
It will approach both films in the morning to achieve the second biggest lead of 2022 after KGF 2 (4.11 million tickets). In terms of net and gross collections, the film has already passed both RRR and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 as the multiplexes moved forward with sensational awards for Brahmastra.
By midday on Tuesday, it will approach over 83 (1.17 million tickets) for the biggest pandemic-time advance for a straight-up Hindi film, before hitting the road to chase bigger pre-pandemic fish like Mission Mangal (2.71 million tickets) , Tiger Zinda Hai (2.76 Lakh tickets), Sanju (2.94 Lakh), Dangal (3.05 Lakh) and Sultan (3.10 Lakh).
Brahmastra's final deposit will be one of the highest ever and it will be the credit of the content that will determine the path of the film from September 9 onwards. Talking about the pre-sales for the opening weekend, Brahmastra has sold around 1 lakh 92 thousand tickets across three national chains.
These are simply phenomenal numbers and if we compare apples to apples, the response to the progress is much better than Ranbir's last opener, Sanju. The Rajkumar Hirani directorial has sold 1.08 million tickets across three
national chains till Wednesday morning and for Brahmastra this number will be crossed by Tuesday morning.
Sanju (Wednesday morning) vs Brahmastra (Monday night)
PVR: 55,000 vs 49,000
Inox: 30,000 vs 28,000
Cinepolis: 23,000 vs 15,000
Total: 1,08,000 against 92,000
Releasing on around 5000 screens in India, there is plenty of potential to grow even after the Friday launch. The advance numbers so far are on par with pre-pandemic blockbusters like Tiger Zinda Hai and Sanju and if the spots are as good as these films, we could see a historic opening of 35 crores.
We can safely say that these numbers are achievable if the audience talk is positive and all eyes are now on Ayan to deliver the content. While it was being talked about in the range of Rs 18 to 22 crore till Saturday, it is increasing day by day and a single trade day can be between Rs 25 to 35 crore, depending on word of mouth and spot bookings.
In terms of numbers, the three chains took Rs 2.75 crore nett and Rs 3.25 crore gross on the first day in advance. As for the weekend, the film has grossed Rs 5.75 crore, taking the total gross to Rs 6.80 crore.
Note that these are only the numbers from the national chains and the all-India business is equally good as the film has seen significant progress in the non-national chains as well. The 2D version will open from tomorrow and this should give a further boost to Brahmastra's advance booking status as a large section of the audience prefers cinema in 2D.
He hopes that the film will continue with the momentum in the 2D version as well. Stay tuned to Pinkvilla as we will bring some updates on the status of Brahmastra in 2D starting tomorrow.
